Why Species-Specific Nutrition Isn't Just Marketing

The Nutrients That Make the Difference

  • Taurine: An amino acid essential for feline heart muscle function and retinal health. Dogs can synthesize taurine from other amino acids; cats have a very limited ability to do so and must get it from food. Dog food is not required to contain taurine at levels sufficient for cats.
